  • ITER is a large-scale scientific experiment that aims to demonstrate the technological and scientific feasibility of nuclear fusion, and thus pave the way for its industrial and commercial use. Fusion is the reaction that occurs in the core of the Sun and stars. Twentieth-century fusion science has identified the most efficient fusion reaction to reproduce in the laboratory setting. ITER is now close to achieving a reactor whose ability to produce energy would be continuous. ICPS has been sought out for its engineering skills both in terms of research and communication. ICPS has carried out assessments to offer advice regarding the integration and the development of Cadarache’s Tokamak, especially the diagnosis system. But the role of ICPS is not limited to engineering advice. For visual promotion, ICPS has recently printed a vacuum vessel model in 3D.

  • Through CEREGE European Centre for Research and Teaching of Environmental Geosciences, Maurice Taieb, emeritus director of research at CNRS, wants to reconstruct Lucy's skeleton. Lucy, nickname of the fossil of the Australopithecus afarensis specie, was discovered in Ethiopia in 1974 by the IARE, an international research team led by M.Taieb. This fossil is 40% complete and dates to around 3.2 million ago. ICPS was consulted with the aim of participating in the production of a copy of Lucy's skeleton. Maurice Taieb tasked ICPS with the printing of a bone in 3D, the sacrum. Having no digital 3D model, ICPS conducted a surface reconstruction (RDS) by means of a 3D scanner in order to obtain a usable digital format in CAD. Once the scan was done, ICPS was able to adapt the model to the printer and print it in 3D to obtain a copy of the bones start.

As all of their products are tailor-made and from 100% european manufacturing, the IdexCo's manufacturing division appealed to ICPS skills. It was attributed to ICPS as mission developing prototype parts, whose challenge is to conduct the first phase of validation on the shapes and volumes.
